Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Team has got the green light from his doctor to start riding again. Herlings will do a testsession later today and when everything goes to plan he will race this weekend in the Czech Republic.
After all his misfortune he is still leading the championship and has an advantage of 46 points over Tim Gajser.

The Red Bull KTM Factory team went to Sweden knowing it was a difficult task with key members still recovering from debilitating crashes. In MX2 Jeffrey Herlings, who broke a collarbone in a crash at Germany’s Teutschenthal two weeks ago was set to ride with a freshly plated fracture and in fact delivered an impressive performance in his opening MX2 moto.
The Dutch rider, also the fastest qualifier on Saturday, was quick out of the gates, grabbed the holeshot and went on to win his first race. Jeffrey also got a good start in his second moto but to the horror of his team and fans, his race ended coming out of the first corner of the Uddevalla track. Herlings crashed hard, landed on his healthy shoulder but at the same time sustained lacerations to two fingers and had to retire. To add to the disappointment for the 2-time MX2 World Champion, Herlings was looking at a possible hat trick at the Swedish circuit after having won in 2013 and 2014.

Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Team will race the GP of Sweden this weekend. One and a half weeks after his nasty get off in Teutschenthal where he broke his collarbone, he jumped back on the bike today and did his first practice session today in Veldhoven.
Despite the fact that he still has a little bit of pain he will travel to Sweden to score as much points as possible.
Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Team has had a successful surgery on his broken collarbone this morning. The plan is to be back racing at round eleven of the World MX2 Series in Uddevalla, Sweden in two weeks time. Jeffrey and the team will look day by day but normally he will be able to race in Sweden.
Despite the fact that he didn’t score points yesterday, he still has an advantage of 100 points over Tim Gajser in the World Championship Standings. At this points there are still eight rounds to go and one of them will be held in Assen, the Netherlands on the 30th of August.
Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Team crashed in the opening moto of the German Grand Prix coming out of a scrub on the first jump of his opening moto. He rode straight back to the pits holding his arm and the team later confirmed that he had broken his collarbone in what was assessed as a clean fracture.
Team coordinator Valentina Ragni said he immediately left to return home to the Netherlands and would undergo surgery to have the fracture plated, either Sunday night or Monday. With a break in the race program until July 5, Herlings has some respite to heal the fracture.
While Herlings, also a Red Bull athlete, still has a 100-point lead in his bid for another title, there is now fierce competition for second place between the next four riders and only 12 points separate them.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings bounced back from a sixth place finish in the opening MX2 Moto on Sunday at Italy’s famed Maggiora circuit to ride a near faultless second moto to finish overall second. Following overnight rain and more heavy rain in the morning, riders were presented with extremely difficult conditions.
“We did a good job on Saturday and we won the qualifying but I got messed up a bit at the start of the first moto today. I felt some of the guys cut me off and I got a lot of water in my goggles and my vision was really bad. We still managed to finished sixth although we had some bike problems at the end of the race, but luckily we could finish. I got a good start in the second race. I got the holeshot and led all the way to the finish. I have a good lead in the points and some of my favorite tracks are coming up in the second half of the season. But it ain’t over until it’s over, as we saw last year.”
It was a great day out for Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings on Sunday at the MXGP of France at Villars sous Ecot when he had a decisive 1-1 result in his two motos to pick up his forty seventh career victory in the MX2 class.
Herlings, a Red Bull sponsored athlete sent an early signal to his rivals in both races when he shot right across the field to take the holeshot, completely negating the fact that he had landed a poor gate pick after finishing at the back of the field in Saturday’s qualifying. He had crashed in the first half of the qualifying race and then was unable to finish the final lap after having a technical issue.
The Dutch rider, who lost half his season last year through injury cross rutted and crashed while in the lead 17 minutes into his first race but turned up the heat and chased down Valentin Guillod and Jordi Tixier, taking back the lead with three laps to go. He went on to take the race by 1.3 seconds. He went out hard in his second moto, hit the front and although pursued hard by Tim Gajser and Tixier, delivered another fine victory. Gajser was second overall and Tixier took third, while Herlings’ teammate Pauls Jonass of Latvia who was unwell on Saturday bounced back on race day with a 7-4 result, enough for overall fourth place.
Herlings leaves France with a decisive 112-point lead after eight of 17 rounds. Guillod is second with 246 and Jonass is third just one point behind. He and Pauls ride the KTM 250 SX-F Factory bike
Jeffrey Herlings: “I’m definitely satisfied, especially after I ran such a tough Saturday. But we sometimes say a bad Saturday makes a good Sunday and that’s what we did. We took two good starts and that was really key at this track and we made the best of it. I made it a little bit tougher than it had to be in the first moto. I fell down and gave the competition some hope again. But I fought my way past those guys and up to the front again and I won that moto. The second one was the same with a good start. The track here is not the best for me but you just have to make the best of it. That’s what I did and obviously the starts helped a lot. So it was 1-1 for the overall, some good points for the championship and now we are off to Italy.”
Jeffrey Herlings rounded off the British Grand Prix with a very commendable 1-2 to finish on equal points to Swiss rider Valentin Guillod, who took the GP win by virtue of his victory in the second race. Herlings now has a commanding lead of 92 points in the MX2 fight for the title.
In his first race Herlings was out of the gates in fourth then delivered a dash of his well-known fighting spirit half way through. He was seven seconds behind leaders Max Anstie and Guillod when he fixed the two leaders in his sights. He then picked them both off in the following laps and went on to win by 5.5 seconds. Herlings said later that he was still riding with a very sore back from a crash in the last round in Spain.
Herlings was again in top form in his second moto but failed to catch Guillod in the final stages and had to settle for equal points and second step on the podium.
Jeffrey Herlings: “I’m definitely satisfied with this weekend. I have only won three GPs so far this season but what is important is to be consistent and do well in the championship. After seven rounds in I am 92 points in front so the main thing is to stay out of trouble and not get injured.”

Red Bull athlete Jeffrey Herlings took one of his copybook race wins in the opening MX2 moto at the Spanish Grand Prix but showed commendable fighting spirit to battle his way back into contention after a massive crash at the beginning of his second race. The Dutch rider escaped relatively unscathed from a melee immediately after the gate dropped but both rider and bike went flying after he hit a hole and lost the back end of his KTM 250 SX-F in the opening lap.
He managed to scramble back into the action but was way back at twenty-first in the 27-rider lineup. Herlings immediately began to pick off riders and by Lap 11 had recovered 10 places and trailed the race leader by 38 seconds. He finally fought his way up to seventh position to finish just one point behind GP winner Valentin Guillod. Herlings leaves Spain with a 56-point lead in MX2 after six rounds of the championship.
Jeffrey Herlings: “I definitely had a good start in the first moto, won it and stayed out of trouble. I didn’t have such a good start in the second and was around tenth. I worked my way up to sixth and then I had a big crash. But I came back from the back of the field and almost won the overall. There’s some work to do, but I still got some good points for the championship.”

Jeffrey Herlings was at his bullet-like best in front of his home crowd at the Valkenswaard circuit in the Netherlands on Sunday delivering a stunning 1-1 overall victory on a track that was gnarly and unforgiving. The Red Bull KTM Factory rider has now won on his home circuit six consecutive times and adds to his overall points lead.
It was a different story for his MXGP teammate Antonio Cairoli who went down hard in his opening moto and retired with a damaged bike. He finished eleventh in the second moto after experiencing some problems with his wrist, but he holds onto third in the overall points.
MX2
Jeffrey Herlings, a Red Bull athlete, rode a near faultless first race, and while he had to concede the holeshot to Alexandr Tonkov he was in front several corners later and had a three-second lead at the end of the first lap. He then continuously built on his advantage and crossed the line 42-seconds in front.
Aboard his KTM 250 SX-F Herlings did not get away well in his second race and was mid pack at the first corner. Meanwhile Jonass was up with the leaders and hit the front in lap three. By then Herlings was in fourth place and took over the lead several laps later. He went on to take another comfortable win by 21 seconds. Jonass stayed in contention for the first 11 laps but then dropped back to finish sixth. Herlings now has a 37-point lead after Round 5.
Herlings: “It’s good to have won here again but the sixth time it wasn’t easy. I had a pretty good start in the first moto and stayed out of trouble. But I didn’t have a good start in the second moto. I had a small crash and I had to come back from the middle of the pack. So I made it a little tough for myself. But I worked my way up to front and won, so that was good.”
