Jeffrey Herlings Contains Damage At Latvian GP

Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team managed to contain the damage at the third round of the MXGP world championship series at Kegums in Latvia.

Herlings crashed hard during a training session a few weeks ago and suffered a concussion. That impacted his preparation for the GP and his goal was to minimise the damage.  He finished fourth in both heats and held onto the world championship lead.

The track at Kegums was already treacherous during the early morning sessions. It took Herlings a while to get settled in. He finally found a clear lap and had a go at trying to claim pole position, but he crashed and had to try again. Herlings did another fast lap and ended up in third.

Herlings had a middling start in race one, and had to come forward from tenth place. He managed to pass a few riders, bit some resistance from Jeremy Seewer broke his rhythm, but he still managed to finish fourth.

A crash in the first corner of the second race dropped Herlings to near last, and he had to give it his all.  Again he finished fourth to maintain the world championship lead. He has a four point lead over Tim Gajser.

Jeffrey Herlings: ‘’Though day. 4-4 for 5th overall. Not what we we’re hoping for but I put myself in a though situation in both motos. In 3 days we will get another opportunity.’’ 

The series continues next Wednesday at the same track.
