Jeffrey Herlings extends Dutch Masters title
Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory team managed to extend the title in the Dutch Masters of Motocross 500 class in Markelo on Sunday. This did not go without a hitch, but Herlings managed to score enough points with a third and first place in the heats to secure the title.
Herlings started in Markelo with sore ribs but was determined to get the job done. It had rained a lot on the days leading up to the race and the circuit was therefore muddy. Despite this, Herlings felt at home on the track and managed to set the fastest time in the time training.
The first heat started with a setback for Herlings because he crashed at the exit of the first corner and had to start the race last. On the tough sand circuit he managed to gain places every lap and came further and further back to the front. Herlings eventually finished third and kept the damage limited.
In the second moto it was Herlings who took the holeshot and immediately set a high pace. Herlings controlled the race and crossed the finish line as the winner.
The rider from Oploo finished in second place in the daily rankings and thus secured the title. This coming weekend, Herlings will travel to England for the second race of the British Championship in Lyng.
